Support and Resources

Resource

We are here to support you.

Brown provides a range of resources to both prevent and respond to sexual violence. The information on this page is specifically dedicated to response services for Brown students who have experienced any form of sexual violence or sexual harm, including sexual assault, sexual or gender-based harassment, domestic/dating violence, relational abuse, or stalking.

A note about confidential resources and reporting requirements:

The descriptions below can help in understanding both the protections and limitations of the resources you choose to use.

Confidential Support Resources - University Based

These confidential resources are under no obligation to disclose the content of conversations to the Title IX and Gender Equity Office. Disclosure to a confidential resource does not constitute a report or notification to the University.

Reporting and Accountability - University Based

Students can report incidents of sexual harm directly to the Title IX & Gender Equity Office. Reports that involve an imminent safety risk should go to the Department of Public Safety. These offices keep report information private but they do not have confidential privilege. Staff members in these offices may be both Mandatory Reporters and Campus Security Authorities.

Support Resources - University Based

Students may find support in several different on-campus resources. The following offices are considered private but not confidential. Staff members in these offices may be both Mandatory Reporters and Campus Security Authorities.

Off-campus Resources

There are many supports and sources of education outside of Brown that students may find helpful. The list below is a small sample of these resources.

Local Hospitals and Emergency Rooms (Off-campus, Confidential)

If you are injured or want immediate medical treatment, or if you are considering a sexual assault evidence collection exam (i.e., "rape kit"), you should go to the hospital nearest to you. Below is a list of hospitals local to Brown University where you can seek confidential care.
